In the 2016 election, healthcare was perhaps the most talked about issue. While the Republicans ran on repealing Obamacare, Bernie Sanders rocketed to national prominence with a powerful message of Medicare For All and other social programs to help everyday Americans.
Ultimately Sanders lost the primary to Hillary Clinton, who ran on a moderate platform, disillusioning the massive progressive movement Bernie helped build, and losing the election to Donald Trump.
As we all know 2020 has been a traumatic year. As if a worldwide pandemic and market crash weren't enough, we've also been dealing with high profile killings of unarmed black people that have sparked unprecedented worldwide protests, and calls for human rights and police reform. On top of it all, we have a divisive, corrupt, incompetent, and overall hateful president that is clearly acting like a fascist dictator and calling into question if we will have a free and fair election.
With all of this chaos, Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, has seemingly retreated to the relative safety of staying out of the spotlight. Once again, the issue of healthcare has been largely ignored, despite being in the midst of a public health disaster.
Now more than ever, we need to remind Biden, and everyday Americans, just how important it is to pass Medicare For All. The United States is the richest country in world history. We absolutely have the means to provide ALL of our citizens healthcare. It is a moral outrage that anyone ever die or have their health adversely affected due to lack of coverage or ability to pay. Please join us in flooding social media with your personal accounts of why we need Medicare for All.
"A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.” ― Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
